The Catholic Education Office recognises that all people are lifelong learners. With this in mind, it offers appropriate and supportive pathways for the preparation and ongoing professional learning of its teachers, especially in Religious Education, and for the professional and spiritual formation of those who will lead our schools into the future.
“Teachers in Catholic schools ... are in a most privileged position ... which requires careful preparation, a facility for reflection, and a constant readiness for professional renewal and conversion of heart.
Such teachers bring to their task an extraordinary giftedness and a profound sense of mission.”
In supporting our teachers and leaders, the CEO Sydney offers:
• ongoing professional development courses
• reimbursement of costs for post graduate study in Religious Education and Theology.
Religious Education Accreditation
Do I have to be accredited to teach Religious Education in Sydney Catholic Schools?
Yes. It is a requirement that all teachers of Religious Education be qualified teachers, with the necessary background, knowledge, and professional commitment to the purposes of RE and the ethos of the Catholic School. It is expected that teachers of Religious Education are Catholic, and are committed to their faith.
Those seeking accreditation to teach Religious Education can apply through the classification process or complete the Application for Accreditation.
