Initiatives
- Established and organised the May Conferences for Catholic Primary and Secondary school teachers held at University of Sydney , 1970 - 1973.
- Accepted invitations to conduct Diocesan sponsored seminars/training programs in nearly all Australian dioceses.
- Developed Programs for improved parent-teacher communication and prepared CEO monograph (No.17) "Pastor - Parent - Teacher Communication", 1972. Addressed 1989 Annual Conference, Australian Parents' Council.
- Developed a range of support services for Parish and Regional Primary schools , based on identified needs and with definite accountability requirements, from 1975.
- Began coordinated and sequential training programs for Catholic school Principal s in leadership, administration and curriculum:
- 1975-1981 - Leadership Development Program
- 1980-1982 - Management Development Program
- 1981-1982 - Curriculum Development Program
- 1994 - - Catholic Schools Leadership Program: Preparation for Principalship, etc
- 2001- - Catholic Schools Leadership Succession Series
- 2005-2006 - Leaders for the Future Program
- Drafted the constitutions for the Catholic Primary Principals' Association, 1975, and facilitated the development of this professional association.
- Systemised the appointment, appraisal and re-appointment of Archdiocesan lay principals from 1976. Also Assistant Principals and RECs.
- Began ABOUT Catholic Schools in 1977 and continued to serve as general editor/supervisor, 1977 -
- Worked with NSW Catholic Education Commission in the preparation of materials to help the community to understand the realities of government funding to non-government schools in Australia (1979 - )
- Co-ordinated the development of CEO Regional Offices (1981) and their restructure (1992).
- Implemented strategic management into school system, including development of planning model, annual agenda, CEO team achievement plans and accountability procedures.
- Began Newsletters: Information for Clergy (1987). Briefing Notes for Major Superiors of Religious Institutes (1990), and Briefing Notes for Parents and Friends Associations (1991).
- Began the TEACHERS newsletter for staff working in Catholic schools in Sydney , (1987).
- Assisted Catholic College of Education, Sydney / Australian Catholic University with lectures and Review Committee work for graduate courses.
- Initiated annual " Guide to Educational Services " in late 1970s and " Annual Report " in 1989.
- Restructured the Sydney Catholic Education Office and re-organised the services provided to Catholic Schools in Sydney , and established a Committee structure and operational procedures for the Sydney Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Board, 1987-1988.
- Developed first strategic plan for Archdiocesan systemic schools - " Reshaping our Catholic Schools for the 21st Century, 1990 ".
- Upgraded CEO archives and collated minutes of all Board meetings and Circulars to Schools, since 1939.
- Commissioned the preparation of series of brochures for parents under the heading: " Helping Your Child " (1994).
- Commissioned the preparation of seven publications for parents entitled " A Parents' Companion to Celebrating Our Journey " (1994).
- Initiated Performance Appraisal for CEO Directors by external panels (1992).
- Initiated marketing and School Promotion strategies for Archdiocesan school system, including poster, press, radio and cinema advertising. (1988).
- Introduced new quality assurance processes - PPPR, Educational Audit and School Review and Development - into all systemic schools and utilised these processes to satisfy requirements of NSW Education Reform Act (1990).
- Initiated review of Secondary education that led to decisions contained in "Secondary Education to the Year 2010". (Bulletins 32 and 36) 1995.
- Initiated review of SACS Board and CEO (for period 1987-1994) and development of second Strategic Management plan: " Sydney Catholic Schools: Towards 2005 ", including mission statement and future priorities for the school system (1995).
- Initiated Leadership Succession planning project for senior leadership positions in Catholic Education (1996). Leadership Succession Series published May 2001. Launched "Leaders for the future" (Teachers Under 30) and "Leaders on the Move" (Teachers Over 30) in 2005.
- Appeared before Senate Inquiry into the Status of Teachers. 29 August, 1997.
- Initiated Year 6 Religious Education Test (June, 1998).
- Invited educators from the UK to review the Sydney Catholic school system (1998 and 2004)
- Visiting lecturer "Strategic Leadership in Contemporary Catholic Schools" (ED 5671/6671) The University of Notre Dame Australia - College of Education . January 2000 and 2001.
- Established Student Achievement Targets for BST, Year 6 RE, School Certificate and HSC, annually from 2000 and reported publicly on student performance.
- Supported the revitalization of the Religious Education Curriculum Y3-10 and provision of RE online (2002 - 3).
- Supported the development and implementation of student RE texts, "To Know Worship and Love" (2002 - 4).
- Used the media to draw community attention to the need to attract more males into teaching profession, particularly in primary schools. Initiated Scholarship Schemes, including one to attract more males into primary teaching (2002 - ) and obtained temporary exemption from H.R.E.O.C. (2004 - 2005).
- Initiated an Early Employment Scheme to attract outstanding graduates into systemic schools (2002)
- Adopted Australian Business Excellence Framework (2005) to improve effectiveness of school system.
- Initiated External Review of Sydney and CEO and SACS Board (2004) and development of new Strategic Leadership and Management Plan " Sydney Catholic Schools: Towards 2010 " in 2005 and associated documents - " School Review and Improvement Framework for Catholic Schools" (2005) and "How Effective is Our Catholic School ?" (2006)
- Made applications to SAI Global (formerly Standards Australia) for an award. In 2004 CEO received the Leadership category award and in 2007 was one of the five recipients of a 2007 Australian Business Excellence Award.
- Implemented an innovative program to assist Year 12 students to have their names on the Electoral Roll (2006 and 2007).
- Initiated Leaders for the Future program (2006).
- Commission research report on perception of parents enrolling students into Sydney Catholic secondary schools (2008).
- Commissioned feasibility study on the establishment of a Catholic Vocational Education and Trade Training College (2008).
- Prepared report on the role of Archdiocesan Principals' meetings 1992-2007 in b uilding a Leadership and Learning culture across a school system (2008)
