Services Available to Schools and Communities
The Religious Education and Evangelisation Team works to strengthen Catholic life and Religious Education (RE) in the schools of the Archdiocese by:
- Promoting initiatives in evangelisation and Catholic faith formation.
- Developing policies and guidelines for the teaching of RE.
- Developing policies and guidelines for the requirements, inservice needs and conditions of Religious Education Co-ordinators (RECs) and teachers of RE.
- Responding to the professional development and faith formation needs of RE teachers.
- Promoting and assisting in the implementation of the revised K-12 RE Curriculum and the 'To Know, Worship and Love' student textbooks.
- Initiating and developing programs and resources to respond to emerging needs in RE.
- Maintaining and updating a wide range of RE resources and information on RE Online.
- Conducting the RE Test for Year 6 students each year.
- Administering the Certificate of RE (NSW) through distance education and tutor-based groups, and providing processes for accreditation of RE teachers.
- Organising the endorsement of RE courses with the NSW Board of Studies, and ensuring professional development for the teaching of Studies of Religion.
- Contributing to the comprehensive preparation for World Youth Day 2008 in school communities and responding to this event as an opportunity for renewal during Phase 3.
- Collaborating with Archdiocesan Church agencies in promoting Catholic practice and life in the context of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan 'Starting Afresh with Christ'.
