In May 2008, as part of the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), national tests will be held in literacy and numeracy for all students in Australia at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. These tests will replace the current State and Territory-based assessments and have the support of all Education Ministers.

2008 Assessment	Participation
Literacy and Numeracy	All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 during May 2008.
Literacy and Numeracy 2009 Trial	A trial will be conducted mid 2008 for a sample of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in selected schools throughout Australia.
ICT Literacy	A trial will be conducted in March 2008 for a sample of students in Years 6 and 10 in selected schools in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. A sample of students in Years 6 and 10 in September/October 2008 in selected schools in all states and territories.
Science Literacy	A trial will be conducted in late 2008 for students in Year 6, in preparation for the main assessment in October 2009.
PISA 2009 Field Trial	A trial will be conducted in May / June 2008 for a small sample of students in selected schools in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
