Why teach in a Catholic School?
Catholic schools are founded on the person of Jesus Christ and are enlivened by the Gospel. They support parents in bringing up their children as Catholics, and provide children with a quality education in a strong pastoral environment.

Becoming a teacher
Both Primary and Secondary teachers are trained at university. Teacher training courses normally span four years and allow specialisation in Primary or Secondary education.
Primary teachers in Catholic schools usually teach Religious Education, and need to be accredited to do so. Training at campuses of Australian Catholic University includes courses which provide this accreditation to teach Religious Education.
For those who do their teacher training (Primary or Secondary) at other universities, accreditation to teach Religious Education can be attained by undertaking specific courses of study.
Being employed in a Catholic School
Teaching positions in Sydney Catholic Schools are usually advertised in major metropolitan and regional newspapers as well as on this website. Teachers apply to schools in which they wish to teach. If successful, they are employed by the Principal of the school, which is part of the Sydney Archdiocesan school system. Catholic teachers enjoy the same salaries as teachers in Government schools.
