Learning Framework

The Learning Framework is a comprehensive statement about teaching and learning in the Catholic context. Recognising that all educational practice is governed by values, it includes Foundation Statements that are drawn from the Catholic tradition and relate directly to the person of the learner and the learning process. It reflects what researchers, theorists and practitioners understand about the learner, the learning process and effective teaching.

The Learning Framework provides the starting point for planning for teaching and learning at all levels across the Sydney Archdiocesan school system. It can be used as schools and teachers engage in the process of creating and critiquing teaching and learning policies and practices.

The Learning Framework elaborates on the Vision and Mission Statements and relates directly to the Sydney Catholic Schools 'Towards 2010' Strategic Leadership and Management Plan, particularly by supporting the implementation of:

Key Area 2: Students and their Learning
2.1 Schools that affirm the inherent dignity of each person and respect the right for all to learn and to grow
2.2 Students who are challenged to achieve academic excellence
2.3 School structures that acknowledge diversity and support personalised learning

Key Area 3: Pedagogy
3.1 Schools that are professional learning communities
3.2 Pedagogy that is inclusive, innovative and effective
3.3 Teachers using data to support student learning
3.4 Multimodal learning environments and ICT that support learning and teaching
3.5 School communities that educate for and promote a sustainable ecology.
