The Catholic Intensive English Centre (CIEC) is part of the Sydney Catholic Education System. The CIEC assists students of high school age to learn English when they first arrive in Australia.
To be eligible to attend the CIEC, students must be either Permanent Residents or Full Fee Paying Overseas Students on a student visa and enrolled at a Catholic high school. After their arrival in Sydney, the school refers them to the CIEC for an assessment of their English proficiency. Depending on need, they may attend the CIEC for one to four terms, before continuing study at their high school of enrolment.
Overseas students have a better chance to succeed in their high school studies if they first attend the CIEC to learn English. The CIEC specially prepares its students to enter an Australian high school and learn all subjects in an English language curriculum. It teaches English as a Second Language and these subjects: Religious Education, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Commerce, Art and Sport. The CIEC provides a caring environment where students can learn effectively and adjust to life in Australia. It gives intensive support for the educational, emotional, social and spiritual welfare of the students.
The Catholic Intensive English Centre gives overseas students the best start for their education in Australia and their future.
