It is a three-phased program. The first phase is a 30-hour course that examines the history of development, the key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, community based development in light of Caritas Australia's mandate and the causes of poverty and injustice.
The second phase offers participants the opportunity to visit a developing country for approximately two weeks to experience the transformative role of development through the work of one of our partner agencies. This particular experience is challenging because it brings to life the real issues around poverty, justice and development.
Caritas Australia
The Catholic agency for overseas aid and development, Caritas Australia supports long-term development programs in impoverished communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific which help oppressed people to rediscover their dignity by taking greater control over their lives. Caritas Australia also gives support to community development projects in Indigenous communities in Australia. These development programs are designed and managed by our local partners as they are best placed to identify the needs and problems of their own communities.
Catholic Mission
Catholic Mission is the official mission aid agency of the Catholic Church providing practical, spiritual and emotional support to communities in 160 developing countries, encouraging all people to be active participants in partnership with the church world-wide.
